Navigating Flexible Work in 2025: Perspectives from the Commission and IR Experts

We are delighted to welcome IRSV members and University students to our inaugural Young Professionals Panel and Networking Event on Tuesday, 7 October 2025.

This event will explore the evolving landscape of flexible working arrangements (FWA), disputes, recent decisions, and practical strategies for employers and employees.  As flexible work requests continue to grow post-pandemic, and with legislative reforms expanding employee rights, how can employees navigate flexible work requests, and how can workplaces manage change effectively and lawfully?

Commissioner Yilmaz, Member of the Fair Work Commission, will present on this National Employment Standards entitlement and the Commission’s role in managing related disputes.  This presentation will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Jasmine O’Brien, Principal at Sladen Legal, Lisa Heap, Senior Researcher at The Australian Institute Centre for Future Work and Chris Kennedy, Assistant Secretary of the Police Association Victoria, who will share their practical experiences balancing operational needs, employee expectations, and legal obligations, moderated by Jasmine Hermiz, Lawyer at Clayton Utz.

This is a great opportunity for IRSV members, young professionals, and university students interested in industrial relations to learn about FWAs and build meaningful professional relationships.  If that isn't enough, there will be prizes up for grabs including for one lucky University student to shadow a barrister for the day!
